BTS-03 G1 Prime Matrix of Leadership Upgrade Set with BBTS Exclusive Clear Blue Rifle
From the people that brought you BTS-01 Mobile Command Base a.k.a Classics Prime Trailer Kit we get this new set of accessories for G1 Prime, and a few surprises for your Classics Prime/Magnus/Nemesis/SG Prime etc....
The Box is a standard red cardboard box. Some nice slightly raised graphics adorn the front of the box, and some pictures of how to use the accessories compliment the back.
Opening the box you are greeted by a nice plastic tray with all the accessories and a small silver baggy with the extra exclusive accessory if you picked this up form BBTS.
*The blue Rifle is a BBTS exclusive add-on. Should you purchase it from anywhere else, it may not be included.
The hands are technically articulated at the thumb, and fingers so they can open. However mine were very tight. So tight, that I tore the left thumb almost clear off, when trying to move it to open the fingers. The hands are a light blue that better matches Hasbro's 25th Anniversary Optimus Prime's lighter blue parts, than they do Takara's Encore 01 Convoy's darker ones.
The hands peg snugly into the headlight holes and since they have a somewhat of a ball peg, they get slightly more range of motion that just left and right. Just a tad of up and down movement.
The fingers and thumbs are articulated to hold onto the provided matrix. Wrapping the fingers around the handles provides a secure grip on it.
The Matrix is painted in a nice silver, and has a translucent blue center. It can open and close by sliding on the translucent blue center piece, and offers a nice amount of light piping to make the matrix glow, even inside Prime's chest.
To install the matrix, you must slide the provided chest clip into primes chest/cab. It has a slot to accommodate the raised ridge inside that separates his two seats.
Once the clip is inside, the matrix snugly fits between 2 tabs holding it securely in place. The chest closes cleanly over the matrix, and provides a nice addition to the otherwise empty cavity. Transformation is not compromised at all by the clip as the head can freely rotate back to hide inside the cavity without problem.
Either the provided articulated hands or the standard G1 fists can hold on to the rifle(s) securely. It really is an improvement over the existing versions.
His other weapon, the yellow Energon Axe, can be pegged into the headlight peg holes in lieu of a hand. The peg, at least on mine, is just a tad too small and makes the connection feel slightly less snug than maybe it should. It does peg in, just not as securely as I might like.
The final accessory is a jet pack. The Jet pack hails form the 1980's cartoon, in episodes like Dinobot Island Part 2 where Prime orders his troops to don jetpacks to fly to Dinobot island and stop one of Megatron's nefarious schemes.
The Jet pack features thrusters on ball joints that offer a limited amount of directionality to them. The Jetpack clips to a couple of tabs on Prime's back. It also offers storage for the extra hands and axe by opening a door between the boosters.
some of the accessories can also be used with the Classics Prime mold. The Jet pack can peg snugly onto Primes back via the same hole the wind vane pegs on to.
Classics Prime can also hold the guns and the Axe in his hands. The Translucent Blue gun looks particularly nice in Ultra Magnus' hands.
The set is quite nice, and quite affordable at 19.99 on BBTS. Other than the problem with the hands, this is a set that is a great addition to your G1 Prime. Totally recommended.
