Takara Transformers Animated Rodimus
The much sought after Rodimus figure from the Animated line. Only recently has he started to appear in Toys R' Us stores. I just received the Takara version.
Colors: He's a very deep red, almost purple. The paint is very shiny as opposed to the American release matte plastic.
A Cybertronian Car mode. He's very sleek, with a huge spoiler befitting all Hot Rod homages.
Wheels are a stiff black plastic. his canopy is clear blue, and you can see his face inside the cockpit.
No major gimmicks here, other than his crossbow can attach to thew roof of the car.
Lost of tabs hold him together in vehicle mode.
Transformation is surprisingly complex for an animated figure. Overall its a satisfying transformation.
Robot mode is just plain awesome. You get orange for body parts that aren't part of the car. It contrasts nicely with the almost purple like red of the car mode panels.
Articulation is plentiful. Ball jointed neck. A swivel joint at the base of the neck means he can look up and down quite nicely. Ball jointed shoulders, are a little limited surprisingly enough.
Double jointed, and ball jointed elbows offer a nice range of movement.
Swivel and ball jointed wrists add personality to the poses.
Sadly his hands are open palmed. His thumbs are sculpted such that he can hold standard 5mm peg weapons from other lines.
Swivel waist, ball jointed hips, rotation just above the knee, standard knee bend and ball jointed ankles offer a wide variety of positions.
The lack of heels is quite annoying, as he has trouble keeping upright in some poses. His foot print is quite small.
He looks very cool in many poses, though the open palm means any weapons including his own crossbow, look like they are just cradled, rather than actually wielded for battle.
His only accessory is hi red and orange crossbow. It fires to yellow missiles quite nicely. The downfall, is it looks ridiculous in vehicle mode, and is a little unwieldy in robot mode. Though once posed it does look cool.
All in all its a pretty nice figure. If you lack a Toys R' Us near you like me, online ordering may be the only option. However truth be told, the Takara version since it has to be imported ends up kind of expensive for such a small deluxe figure.
