Jack and Jill

What can I say about this movie?
For a movie claiming to be a comedy, it is substantially stale and only mildly amusing at times. Not only does it immediately degenerate into potty humor with bodily functions, and gas passing they aren't even that funny. For me most of the time it was disturbing.
The movie stars Adam Sandler, who also produces this horrible mess, as family man and very successful Advertising executive Jack Sadlsltein, who dreads the visit of his twin sister Jill. They are complete opposites in every regard,. He is successful, charming, popular, and rich, she is homely, unpopular, unsuccessful and somewhat depressive.
I'm not saying its wrong in a movie to show this side of a person, or the difficulties one must endure when one is awkward and bumbles around, but in a movie that's supposed to make you laugh, it doesn't make much sense and kills the mood
Revolving around Jack's inability to relate to his sister, and the many ways he tries to get rid of her until he really needs her to secure none other than Al Pacino for a Dunkin' Doughnuts ad, it should have provided many laughs and a good time. However the constant reminder of her feelings and mental state just damper the situations.
Al Pacino plays a delightfully quirky and oddball version of himself that is truly funny in most of the movie. From having a break down due to a cell phone ringing in the theater were he is playing Henry the VIII, to his unbelievable attraction to Jill, he did offer a few mild grin moments. But all this is offset from the completely inadequate analysis of her feelings of social inadequacy, and sadness
Its really hard to laugh when you are thinking of the poor woman who can't get a boyfriend, lives alone, and is a complete social outcast. Unless you are an insensitive jackass this movie is hard to enjoy
Some of the cameos in this movie are outright strange in that they happen. Johnny Depp? Regis Philbin? John McEnroe? All making fun of themselves in what they surely thought was going to be a better movie.
In the end, it would have been better to make Jill be Jack in disguise to get Pacino, however the movie deviates and tries to send a social message, it really didn't have to send. This makes the movie an awkward experience at the least with very little to laugh about.
1.5 out of 5 reels.
